Type as Art/Examples!

Type Composition/Design

REMEMBER:

Two of your square compositions will have a black ground and colored type as the focus of your design, the remaining two squares will have reverse or gray type on a gray ground, the last square will have black type on a white ground.

You will be required to create a cohesive and interesting type design focusing on type as a design element. The letters become objects, unique shapes that create an original motif.

Think about the "space"that the letters occupy ( Positive Space) & the space around the letter within your square box ( Negative Space)...is it visually balanced and pleasing to the eye? THINK, EVOLVE, DON'T BE SATISFIED WITH YOUR FIRST DESIGN.

Play with:•

•Balance

•Size/Proportion

•Rotation/Mirroring shapes

•Color/Opacity/Effects

•Repetition/Copying

•Alignment

•Symmetrical/. Asymmetrical design

•"Breaking"borders

The "Visual Balance" between the positive and negative areas of your design is sometimes referred to as its 'Color"...squint with your eyes and see if certain parts

of your composition are balanced!
