intro to design and creative thinking
Mondrian_Adobe Illustrator
Piet Mondrian is a Dutch artist best known for his abstract paintings. Art that is abstract does not show things that are recognizable such as people, objects or landscapes. Instead artists use colors, shapes and textures to achieve their effect
When Mondrian made his paintings, he would always mix his own colors, never using the paint directly out of a tube. He often used primary colours – red yellow and blue – as in this painting.
Mondrian did not use a ruler to measure out his lines! He thought carefully about where to place the lines,
Mondrian became an important artist whose ideas and work influenced lots of later artists. In fact it wasn't just art that Mondrian inspired. The influence of his paintings can be seen in lots of other
things – from furniture to fashion!
Since you are a beginning Adobe Illustrator Artist, this project will give you the opportunity to play with the art elements of line, shape, space, value, form, texture, and color.
After learning a little bit about the famous Abstract Artist, Piet Mondrian, you will creat eyour own abstract work using LINE,SHAPE and COLOR.
When you create your design, you should think about SHAPE in terms of size and placement. You should think about SPACE...How do the rectangles and squares relate to one another. How do the shapes vary in size, are the same size rectangles and squares repeated in your design? Are you using the rule of thirds? Is your overall design pleasing and does your use of color lead your eye through the entire design?
Once yo have create your "Mondrian" masterpeice , you will copy your artwork a minimum of 6 times on separate layers and manipulate your creation using
the Warp Tools, Illustrator Effects/ Photoshop Effects found in the app.
